Film grain filter.
Add texture to your photo. Tune the grain, compare at actual size, and download a repeatable result.

Preview uses your decoded image. Downloads keep the dimensions shown above.
Find the texture that fits your photo
- Import a static PNG, JPEG or WebP photograph. The tool does not upload your photo.
- Start with a low intensity for subtle texture. Increase the texture scale for a coarser effect.
- Choose monochrome grain for a shared RGB variation or color grain for independent channel variations.
- Keep the seed to reproduce the same texture, or choose a new seed. Download PNG for transparency or JPEG with a white background.
Useful details
Is this a real film-stock simulation?
No. The filter adds deterministic synthetic noise with adjustable intensity and texture scale. It does not model film chemistry, scanner behavior, a particular stock, or color grading.
Does the seed change my photo?
The seed changes the arrangement of the texture. The same source pixels, settings and seed produce the same processed pixels. New seed chooses another arrangement; intensity zero leaves the decoded source unchanged.
Why does the preview look smoother when zoomed out?
A scaled preview combines many image pixels. Fine grain is easier to see at actual size; choose Actual size and scroll the preview, or inspect the downloaded file at 100% zoom.
Which images can I use?
Static PNG, JPEG and WebP images up to 20 MB, 12 million pixels, and 8,000 pixels per side. Animated GIF, APNG and WebP are rejected rather than silently flattened. HEIC, AVIF and SVG are not supported in this version. JPEG orientation metadata is applied when decoding.
See the grain before you save
For subtle texture
Start with low intensity and 1 px texture scale. Inspect Actual size: a fit-to-screen preview can hide fine grain.
For a coarser treatment
Raise the texture scale and intensity. Keep the seed to reproduce the same arrangement when exporting again.
This tool adds synthetic texture. It does not recreate the chemistry or color response of a named film stock.

Image processing happens in this browser tab. Your images are not sent to a server, saved in browser storage, or used for training. Downloads go to your device. Clear removes the current image from the editor; closing the tab ends the session.

About this tool
GRAINROOM is an independent, free utility for static images. It has no affiliation with photo-editing software or image platforms. Processing and PNG/JPEG encoding use browser APIs; browser color management and JPEG re-encoding may change colors or metadata. Exports do not retain source EXIF metadata.
No account, subscription or watermark. Use images you have permission to edit.
